Each ‘weekly task’ will be posted here every Monday at 10am. Please use the comments box below should you have you any questions.

The structure

week 04: CONVERGE

Monday 3rd May, 10.00–13.00

  • Based upon all the work you have done to date (Collect / Catalogue / Curate)
  • You are to converge into a ‘final outcome’.
  • This could be either developing/refining the Collect outcome, or converging your Curate and Collect outcome, etc.
  • Whatever you feel to be the strongest ideas converge and refine.
  • To be uploaded to the blog by Thursday 7th May @ 11:59pm
  • In addition you are to map out your journey through the project, and reflect upon the how you felt the project went, this is also to be uploaded by Thursday 7th May @ 11:59pm

week 03: curate

Monday 27th April, 10.00–13.00

  • From your 26 items, remove 13 items and replace with 13 new items (these could be related items/objects or not, but are to be sourced from your immediate environment/location)
  • Select, organise, and arrange at your new 26 items (how are they related? what’s function? material? value? meaning? consider LATCH as a method of organising)
  • Then you are to create an ‘exhibition’ (how do you best exhibit these? as a publication? a film? a website? a podcast? in your bedroom? in your bathroom?!)
  • Document your ‘exhibition’ and upload onto the blog by Thursday 30th April at 11:59pm
  • Review each group members post and consider their work based on these following questions:
    • Is the method of exhibiting the items successful? How?
    • Is the format of the ‘exhibition’ appropriate to the content? Why?
    • How do you think it could be developed?
  • We will be discussing your thought on the Blackboard Collaborate Ultra sessions on Monday 4th April.
  • As we have been experiencing some difficulties with MyBlogs please can you also upload your work to Moodle: https://moodle.arts.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=37037#section-4

week 02: Catalogue

Monday 20th April, 10.00–13.00

  • Choose 3 of your 26 items
  • Translate the 3 items in as many ways as you can think of (a minimum of 12 ways)
  • For example it could be:
    • Weight
    • Cost
    • A textual description
    • Memories associated to it
    • Drawn
    • Scanned
    • Photograph (in multiple viewpoints)
    • Painted
    • Printed
    • Animated
  • Consider how best to compile and create into ‘publication’, what is the most appropriate format? Media and medium?
  • Document your process and upload this and your publication to the I&S Blog by Thursday 23rd April @ 5pm.
  • Review each group members post and provide written feedback on their work by responding to the following questions:
    1. Are the methods of translation successful? How?
    2. Is the format of the ‘publication’ appropriate to the content? Why?
    3. How do you think it could be developed?
  • Be kind, constructive and engaged.
  • Feedback is to be written and posted before Monday 27th April @ 10am.

week 01: Collect

Tuesday 14th April, 14.00–17.00

  • Collect 26 items/objects from around your immediate environment; your house/flat, bedroom, wardrobe, bedside drawers (trinkets, jewellery, books, cards, anything!)
  • Classify, interrogate and organise them according to LATCH
  • Compile, create and design an A5 16pp publication.
  • Your publication can be hand made, printed or a pdf.
  • You are also to connect with your group; introduce yourself, have a conference call and get to know each other!
  • Document your process and upload this and your publication to the I&S Blog by Thursday 16th April @ 12pm.
  • Review each group members post and provide written feedback on their work by responding to the following questions:
    1. Is the method of classification clear? How could it be clearer?
    2. How does the methods of classification effect the collection?
    3. Is the design of the publication effective in communicating the collection? How could it be improved?
  • Be kind, constructive and engaged.
  • Feedback is to be written and posted before Monday 20th April @ 10am.
