converge – lili fourmestraux

for this week’s final task, I decided to expand my work from last brief (curate), that was an exhibition leaflet, into a website. you can access it here(and should do so on a computer, with not too small of a window.)

the content remains the same but allows a digital interactiveness with the viewer/user that suits our current off-life situation.

i also added some recordings of the testimonies read by artificial voices. in the future, i’d like to be able to tape actual people, from different countries and ages, to match the fictional characters and stories i’ve written.

after task 1 and task 2, i felt like i’d talked enough about my life and childhood. which is why i decided to work on something rather different for this week. i crafted and curated the leaflet of a virtual exhibition, and associated my 26 objects with fictional testimonies, from other voices than mine.

the full pdf is accessible here. research/process is here

(the weird background texture is non-intentional, it’s a myblog mischief)

said leaflet is a 9-page foldable publication, with a poster on the back. i wish i could include a video of me manipulating it, but i don’t have a printer!! you’ll have to figure out how it works (clues in my process/research)

my collection (here) being centered on objects from my early years, i decided to make my catalogue playful and childlike. not having a scanner or a printer available was a nice challenge that allowed me to go more digital – i usually like to craft with my (bare) hands.

i kept the idea of a very long concertina, like a frieze, to enhance the recurring pattern of the three objects, and to go with my first publication if they were ever to be presented together.

Currently quarantined, I am not home but in a countryside house where a lot of things from my childhood and teenage years have been moved (toys, books, clothes…). I created a chronology of my life through these objects. All the images are clickable if you want to take a closer look! or you can access the project presented as a pdf here

a little mock-up as i thought it would make sense printed as a concertina for a frieze/fresco style (but i have no printer right now)
